03.11.2021 Difficulties of Olive and Olive Oil Sector Were Discussed at Aydın Commodity Exchange
2021/2022 Season Olive and Olive Oil Sector Meeting was held at Aydın Commodity Exchange.
Aydın Commodity Exchange Speaker A.Bahri Erdel, Vice President of Aegean Olive and Olive Oil Exporters Association M. Kadri Gündeş, Aydın Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Manager Ahmet Ökdem, Chamber/Exchange Heads, Heads of the Agricultural Chamber and Industry Representatives attended to 2021/2022 Season Olive and Olive Oil Sector Meeting which Aydın Commodity Exchange hosted.
At the olive and olive oil sector meeting held in Aydın Commodity Exchange Conference Hall, consultations were held on the poblems had by the members in the sector and the issues they demanded.
In the opening speech of the Olive and Olive Oil Sector meeting, Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aydın Commodity Exchange, stated that olive and olive oil production is one of the most important agricultural activities in our country and provides an important added value to the economy of our province, and that our country ranks 4th in the world in olive oil production and our province ranks 1st in olive oil production.
Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aydın Commodity Exchange, said, ''9.5% of the table olive tree presence in our country is located in our province and Aydın herself contributes to the production of table olives with a rate of 17.6%. In our country, 15.2% of the olive oil tree presence is located in our province and Aydın herself produces 9.3% of Turkey's olive oil production.'' Mr. Çondur stated that a total of 150 million 143 thousand dolars was exported in olives in the 2020/2021 season, while our province contributed approximately 24 million dolars to our country in 2020 exports.
Çondur stated that 29,762,016 KG of table olives were traded on Aydın Commodity Exchange in the 2020-2021 season and the average price of olives in 2020-2021 was 6.36 TL while olive oil traded 10, 346,815 KG and the average price of olive oil from olive oil was 21.61 TL.
Stating that Aydın Commodity Exchange has done remarkable studies in order to increase the awareness and branding of agricultural products in our province and in the world, Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Aydın Commodity Exchange, said, '' As Aydın Commodity Exchange, our stock exchange applied to the Turkish Patent and Tardemark Authority in 2019 and received geographical sing registration on September 17, 2020 and applied for European Union registration on September 24, 2021. However, Aydın Memecik Olive, which we applied to the Turkish Patent and Tardemark Authority as Aydın Commodity Exchange in order to increase added value of its agricultural products and to be registered and protected through geographical indications, was accepted on May 7, 2021 and Aydın Yamalak Yellow Olives were registered on April 21, 2021.''
''Solution to Storage Problem in Olive Oil Sector, Licensed Warehouse''
Stating that the storage problem, which is one of the main problems of the entire agricultural sector in our country is also a problem for the olive oil sector, Mr. Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Aydın Commodity Exchange, said that struggles of inadequate storage facilities and nonconformity of storage conditions are encountered and added that the first step has been taken to implement the Olive Oil Licensed Storage-regimented project, which is jointly owned by Aydın Commodity Exchange together with the Chamber of Agriculture in Çine, in order to contribute to the increase of quality and value in olive oil from the demands of the members.
M.Kadri Gündeş, mentioned olive and olive oil export's data, Vice Chairman of the Board of Aegean Olive and Olive Oil exporters association, announced that table olive exports for the 2020-2021 season increased by 5% in quantity terms to 88,393 tons and by 3% to $150 million in amount terms.
Gündeş stated that $ 114 million of table olive exports are in black olives and $36 miilion in green olives, also Germany, Iraq, Romania, the United States and Bulgaria are among the leading countries in table olive exports.
Gündeş stated that olive oil exports decreased by 3% in quantity compared to the previous season and increased by 22% to 134 million dolars in terms of amount,and that the olive oil export unit price increased by 26% compared to the previous season, from $2.43 to $3.06 kg. Gündeş said that the countries that exported the most olive oil in the 2020/2021 season were the US, Spain, Japan, Iran and Saudi Arabia.
Aydın Agriculture and Forestry Provincial Manager Ahmet Ökdem gave an assessment of the table olive data, drought and supported experiences in Aydın province.
Aydın stated that there is a total olive area of 154 thousand hectares and most of them are non-identified areas. '' We have a production in table olive from 70,000 tons to 120,000 tons in 2019. In olive Oil it's in the band of 300 thousand tons.
He also added that '' We have supports in danelik olives, 80 cents and 15 cents. In this sense, 2 million liras of support payments were made in 2019 and 3 million liras in 2020. We continue to support 16 million liras in the productivity years of olive oil and 5 million 700 thousand liras due to the fact that last year was not a productive year. ''

Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Aydın Provincial Agriculture and Forestry Directorate Plant Production and Plant Health Branch Manager Aydın Çelik as speakers.
The current state of olive and olive oil season was evaluated with the members at the meeting, where the steps to be taken and the measures to be taken were conveyed to solve the problems experienced in olive and olive oil sector.
Industry representatives, who decided to act jointly to solve all the issues raised during the meeting, revealed ideas on the conduct of studies on the issues.
