MAY 7,2021- Registration Advancement Of Geographical Indication Is Going On In Aydın Commodity Exchange

Registration of Geographical Indication applied by Aydın Commodity Exchange for  Aydın Memecik Olive, one of the Aydın province’s brand value to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office has been resulted.

Aydın Memecik Olive of which Aydın Exchange has applied to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office to increase the economic added value of agricultural by registering them under protection through geographical signs has received registration of geographical indication.

‘’Aydın Memecik Olive’’, which was applied to the Turkish Patent and Brand Institution with the C2018/082 application number dated July 16,2019 was registered with the relevant institutions of Turkish Patent and Brand Institution on May 7,2021.

Following the registration of Aydın Chestnut, Aydın Memecik Olive Oil, Aydın Yamalak Yellow Olive and Aydın Memecik Olive which were applied to Turkish Patent and Brand Institution to increase the recognition of traditional producers within the Aydın Commodity Exchange quota, the number of registered geographical indication increased to 4. Futhermore, Aydın Pine Nut, was published on Turkish Patent and Brand Institution Geographical Indications and Traditional Product Name Bulletin on April 1,2021 and a geographical marking registration certificate will be obtained at the end of 3 months reclamation period. Çondur who said that on the point of the protecting products in order not to face with unfair competition is significant added that he has safeguarded the concern of producers and operators of geographical indication.

Chairman of the Board of Directors at Aydın Commodity Exchange, Fevzi Çondur, who stated that though the geographical indication process is the result of a long term that’s an important effort also said ‘’ We’ll continue to protect  and brand agricultural products with our applications to the Turkish Patent and Brand Institution ’’

Time to convey our Registered Products to the European Union

Çondur, stated the registered Aydın Chestnut in the European Union by the Aydın Commodity Exchange for the global recognition of agricultural products in Aydın is also an encouraging development for the other agricultural products said that ’’ Geographical Indications are remarkable means of enrichment for countries. Increasing value- added of registered products leads to branding and the development of national and international market share. For this reason, The Aydın Commodity Exchange will apply for the registration of its geographically market products for the European Unions. Aydın Memecik Olive is a profitable and has variety of  high oil quality with large and small pip. Aydın Memecik Olive grows in rich endemic of the mountains , accompanied by the region’s climate characteristics, soil structure and pH level of the region and has supplied 47 percent of the olives produced in Aydın.
