18.11.2021 Aydın Commodity Exchange has applied for Aydın Memecik Olives, European Union Geographical Indication Registration

Aydın Commodity Exchange has applied for European Union Registration for geographically signed Aydın Memecik Olive. 

Aydın Commodity, which atteches importance to geographical indication studies in promoting agricultural products of Aydın Province on national and international platforms, applied for the registration of Aydın Memecik Olive in the European Union on May 7, 2021 which was accepted as registered with the institutions related to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Authority.

After the registration of Aydın Memecik Olive, which has a brand value for the economy of our province, by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Authority, an application was made for its registration before the European Union with the initiatives of Aydın Commodity Exchange. 

Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Aydın Commodity Exchange, stated that they meticulously carried out the necessary works for the registration of Aydın Memecik Olive in the European Union and made statements about the application.

Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aydın Commodity Exchange stated that the geographical indication gives the product a reputation and increases the recognition of the region in which it is produced.

Stating that the trust in products with geographical indication has led to increase demand for the product, Fevzi Çondur stated that geographically indication products contribute to the regional and national ecenomy by gaining a position in national and international markets.

Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aydın Commodity Exchange, said, ''Our Stock Exchange attaches importance to geographical indication studies in order to increase the added value of local products that provide integrity with our province and to contribute ecenomically to rural development. As it is known, we have a total of five products registered by our stock exchange as Aydın Chestnut, Aydın Memecik Olive Oil, Aydın Memecik Olive, Aydın Yamalak Yellow Olive and Aydın Pine Nuts. After the Aydın Chestnut registered with the European Union, we make applications for our other protected designation of origin of the products. Accordingly, our Stock Exchange applied to the European Union on September 24, 2021 and then applied for European Union registration for Aydın Memecik Olive Oil. If our geographical indication products are approved by European Union, the number of products accepted for registration in the European Union will increase 3. Huriye Özener, who took over as our consultant in preparation for the European Union registration application, Dr.Engin Ertan who is Adnan Menderes University Agriculture Faculty Horticultural Crops and everyone who contributed and wish them well for our province abd our country.''

Aydın Memecik Olive, which is grown in Aydın province, is known for its drought- resistant and high fat and fruit flesh core ratio. The average amount of fruits per kilogram of Aydın Memecik Olive is 200 and the average fat content is 24.50 %.
