23.01.2025 Aydın Commodity Exchange Continues Own Success in Geographical Indication Registration

The Aydın Commodity Exchange has increased the number of its registered products to six by obtaining a geographical indication (GI) registration for Aydın Enginarı from the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

The application for Aydın Enginarı was submitted on August 8, 2023, under application number C2023/000202 and, following its evaluation, was officially registered on January 10, 2025. During the Geographical Indication Certificate Ceremony, organized in collaboration with the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, the registration certificate was presented to Aydın Commodity Exchange Chairman Fevzi Çondur by Aydın MP Ömer Özmen and Turkish Patent and Trademark Office President Prof. Dr. Zeki Durak.

Chairman Fevzi Çondur emphasized the significance of this registration, highlighting that Aydın, as Turkey’s leading artichoke-producing region, sought GI protection to distinguish Aydın Artichoke from similar products and promote it as a high-quality and reliable brand both nationally and internationally.

Following the national GI registration, Mr. Çondur announced that preparations for applying for European Union geographical indication registration had begun. He stated that EU recognition would enhance the product’s market reach, increase its value, and further validate its quality and authenticity, benefiting local producers.

Mr. Çondur expressed gratitude to Aydın MP Mustafa Savaş, Geographical Indications Consultant Huriye Özener, Turkish Patent and Trademark Office President Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki Durak, and Geographical Indications Department Head Hakan Kızıltepe for their support in successfully completing the registration process.
