Fevzi Çondur, spoke about Aydın Commodity Exchange activities, 2020 production season and new season expectations.
Mr. Çondur stated that 90% of the products decreased from 8% to 40% when analizing at climatic conditions in 2020, and these decreases were tolerated by price. Stating that the demand for snack food products such as nuts and dried fruits during the pandemic process reflected positively on the prices, Mr. Çondur said, ''Although we have experienced a decrease in production, we have seen an increase in price of up to 35%. This situation was in favor of the manufacturer.''
Stating that Agriculture and Forestry Minister Doc. Bekir Pakdemirli submitted his demands to Minister Pakdemirli about the opening of agricultural quarantine directorate and licensed storage to Aydın at Aydın Agriculture and Forestry Non Governmental Organization Joint Mind Meeting held with the participation of Chambers, Commodity Exchanges and investors who are skateholders of agriculture in Aydın, Mr. Çondur said, ''There were two items that we requested to The Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, Mr. Pakdemirli at the sector meeting. First, we submitted our request to open an Agricultural Quarantine Directorates. As Aydın, we are the first in the production of dried figs not only in Turkey but also in the world. Currently, 70% of dried fig exports are exported from Aydın and this is shipped in İzmir Port. The goods coul be returned to İzmir Customs as soon as they leave İzmir Customs in case of dispute or when they have a refund due to some difficulties in the analysis. You could not carry this product from İzmir to Aydın cause of not being any customs in Aydın. This is due to the lack of agricultural quarantine directorate. As a result, our exporters unload the goods to nay warehouse in İzmir, pays a rent again for these or rent a place in the free zone for 12 months. Since there are no skilled workers there, workers are taken from here to İzmir. After unwinding the packages of the goods, selecting and processing the product, these goods are exported again. In addtition, the cost of transporting workers between two provinces are revealed. When we communicated it to our Minister, they saw that it is reasonable. Our Minister informed for Aydın that even if we could not open an Agricultural Quarantine Directorate, they will evaluate figs and other food products coming out of Aydın with a tracking system and processing them in Aydın and exporting them again.''
Stating that they also submitted licensed storage requests to Minister Padkdemirli, Mr. Çondur said, '' Our second request was about Licensed Storage. We stated that there is a place in this system that is disrupted, and that we ask for to make a change to the Licensed Warehouse communique by improving this situation and including ginneries. The Ministry considers cooperatives and other ginnery to be affiliated with the Ministry of Commerce. However, the Ministry of Commerce is our ministry of agriculture and forestry. Se we said that this could be solved through joint and organized work. We have received a feedback that this matter is being dealt with,'' he said. Stating that a productive meeting took place where the problems and demands of the sector were discussed, Mr. Çondur said that they were grateful for the meeting.
'' The Increase in Fig Prices Pleased The Producers''
Mr. Çondur said that they lost production in figs in 2019. He added that ''As we moved from 2019 to 2020, we experienced 13% production loss in figs and a nearly 24% increase in price. Of course, the good prices of figs pleased producers. Figs are sold at a high price compared to other products. Actually, we don't think figs are still worth anything. The numbers we are targeting in figs are higher.'' Stating that figs are in demand, Mr. Çondur spoke that they aim to export 10 thousand dollars a ton.
Stating that there is a historical drought in Aydın until January, Mr. Çondur said, '' They received relatively some rainfall with raining in January, but the dams feeding us are not rainwater. Especially the dams that have effectiveness in the production of plains need to be full. We will have a meeting with the State Water Works (DSI) on this issue. In a month, the production season will start in the plains in Aydın.''
Speaking about the preparation of 2021 production season and irrigation, Mr. Çondur stated that a production planning should be made that the producer is currently on hold. After receiving the occupancy rate of the dams from DSI, Mr. Çondur emphasized that this work should be discussed as a power and discussed about the irrigation and production season.
