25.03.2021 Reaction to The Ban on Bulk Olive Oil Exports from Fevzi Çondur, Board Chairman of Aydın Commodity Exchange

Fevzi Çondur, Board Chairman of Aydın Commodity Exchange, explained the ban against the bulk export of olive oil after 20 years at the request of the Ministry of Commerce General Directorate of Exports,  Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The Ministry of Commerce's General Directorate of Exports has banned the exports of olive in bulk after 20 year absence at the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

At the request of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, giving justification the uncertainty caused by the Covid-19 pandemic process in trade and increasing demand for oil, the Ministry of Commerce has imposed a ban on the export of bulk and barrel olive oil. In line with decision taken, it has been made public that bulk and barrel olive oil can not be exported from Turkey until October 31, 2021.

Mr. Çondur, ''With this decision, we will leave our olive oil market to rival countries''

Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of Aydın Commodity Exchange, made a statement against the export ban of olive oil, which is one of the most important agricultural products of the Aegean Region and is one of the agricultural products exported by Turkey.

Stating that is unacceptable to ban bulk olive oil exports again after 20 years, Çondur added ''In our country, 50 % of olive oil exports are made as bulk olive oil. We need to take into account the fact that there is little demand for olive oil in the domestic market. The ban on bulk olive oil exports indicates that the risk of olive oil remaining on our hands will increase. This decision will negatively affect our olive oil exporter. With this ban on bulk olive oil exports, we will leave our olive oil market to countries such as Greece, Spain, Tunisia, Morocco. In these circumstances, we express that we do not approve of the ban on bulk olive oil exports and demand a review of the decision.''
