The harvest season has started for Aydın Kestane, which is one of the important agricultural products of Aydın and has a European Union geographical indication registration. Aydın Commodity Exchange received the first Aydın Kestanesi of the 2023/2024 season from producers at a price of 350 TL per kilo.
2023/2024 Season Chestnut First Purchase Ceremony, which took place at the Aydın Commodity Exchange with the attendance of Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat, was attended by Aydın Commodity Exchange Chairman of the Board Fevzi Çondur, Assembly Speaker Ahmet Bahri Erdel and his management, Aydın province institution directors, chamber and exchange presidents and producers participated.
Making a statement about the meaning and importance of the day for 2023/2024 Season Chestnut First Purchase ceremony, Aydın Governor Yakup Canbolat said that Turkey ranks fourth in the world chestnut production rankings. Our province of Aydın, which is described as the most beautiful earth under the sky with honey flowing from its mountains and oil plains, is one of the rapidly developing cities of the Aegean Region and our country, both in terms of its geographical location, its potential in agriculture, tourism and industry, its potential in the agriculture, tourism and industry sectors, its qualified manpower, and being a province that has a say in exports. It is one of the provinces. Agriculture is carried out in the majority of the lands of our province, which is located on the fertile plains irrigated by the Buyuk Menderes River. Our province is suitable for polyculture agriculture with its soil, climate, topographic structure and ecological characteristics. We have a strong potential for cultivation in every branch of agriculture. One of these potentials is undoubtedly chestnut production. Chestnut is an important product due to the employment it provides to the country's economy and the added value it creates. According to 2021 data, world chestnut production was 2 million 269 thousand 924 tons. While China ranks first with a share of 75 percent in this production, our country ranks fourth in the world rankings after China, Spain and Bolivia. Our country has more than 3 million chestnut trees and a production area of nearly 14 thousand hectares.
