Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Board of Aydın Commodity Exchange, A.Bahri Erdel, Speaker of the Assembly, and Cengiz Ülgen, Vice Chairman of the Board, participated in the 2nd Olive Oil Season Opening Festival organized by the Balatçık Village Agricultural Development Cooperative.
The festival started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem. In his opening speech, Mustafa Karakaya, President of the Balatçık Village Agricultural Development Cooperative, stated that the cooperative has been working diligently to produce high-quality and high-standard olive oil. Mr. Karakaya also expressed his gratitude to the guests attending the festival.
Mr. Çondur also mentioned that as Aydın Commodity Exchange, they organized Olive Oil Tasting and Promotion Days with internationally accredited tasters by the International Olive Council in 32 provinces of Turkey, and that they conveyed the distinctive features of Aydın Memecik Zeytinyağı to the final consumers.
Speaking about the issue of adulterated and counterfeit products, which has recently been a hot topic in the country, Mr. Çondur stated that they have had necessary discussions with the relevant authorities to ensure that companies involved in counterfeiting and adulteration receive deterrent penalties.
İbrahim Altıntaş, Director of Aydın Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry, stated, "This year, it is time for the olives, produced with much effort, to be collected and turned into ‘Golden Liquid,’ or olive oil, as Homer called it. Last year, approximately 51,000 tons of table olives and 122,000 tons of oil olives were produced in Aydın. This year, since it is an 'on-year' for olives, we expect this number to be even higher. With the Aydın Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and our district directorates, we are conducting integrated pest management activities in approximately 17,000 hectares of land. Aydın ranks first in the country in this field. In addition, training is being organized for our producers, and business inspections are being carried out to ensure that our olive oil maintains its quality and reaches its full value. Quality is the most important criterion in olive oil," he said.
Throughout the festival, tasting training was provided by Aydın Commodity Exchange Tasting Panelists. The distinctive features of high-quality olive oil were explained to the visitors at the stands.
