Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Aydın Commodity Exchange, evaluated the 2024 agricultural challenges affecting Aydın, including rising input costs, aflatoxin issues in fig exports, and counterfeiting in the olive oil sector.
Agricultural Input Inflation: Rising costs for fertilizers, fuel, and feed are burdening producers and affecting competitiveness in exports. Çondur called for public policies to reduce costs and provide effective support to producers.
Aflatoxin in Figs: Aflatoxin contamination has led to significant financial and environmental losses in fig exports. Çondur emphasized the need for strict inspections, improved handling processes, and discussions with government officials to address these challenges.
Counterfeiting in Olive Oil: The growing problem of counterfeiting and adulteration is harming producers, consumers, and Turkey’s reputation. Çondur highlighted the importance of choosing reliable brands, raising awareness, and enforcing stricter penalties to combat this issue.
Mr. Çondur called for collaboration among all stakeholders to address these issues and ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for Aydın’s agriculture.
