Under the hosting of the Aydın Commodity Exchange, the 2024/2025 seasonal sectoral meeting for dried figs, where Turkey leads global production, was held. During the meeting, industry representatives assessed the issues and demands faced by producers, traders, and exporters. Additionally, detailed discussions were held on the steps that need to be taken to resolve these problems.
The meeting was attended by Mehmet Ali Ünverdi, Head of Risk Assessment at the General Directorate of Food and Control of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Aydın Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Altıntaş, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Aegean Dried Fruits and Products Exporters' Association Yusuf Gabay, heads of chambers and commodity exchanges in Aydın, institution officials, and sector representatives.
During the meeting, Çondur stated, "In the 2023/2024 season, during which Turkey maintained its leading position in global fig production and exports, a total of 59,636 tons of dried figs have been exported so far. Of this amount, 50,593 tons were shipped from our province. In the 2023-2024 season, a total of 73,852 tons of dried figs were registered across the country, with 58,049 tons of this amount from our province. The average price per kilogram in the 2023-2024 season for HMS (high moisture content) figs was 98.83 TL."
Mr. Çondur emphasized that these figures signify a great success for Aydın province and Turkey and that important steps will continue to be taken through collaborative efforts to further develop the sector in the future.
